Plan
lights • no faces • focus on colour • positive, uplifting • everyday assossiations - camera movements as if you were experiencing it➝ Reflection - imaginary, unreal
Black & white until chorus
Following feet movement, realistic, everyday
➝ Once music lifts, focus on the colour of the lights. (Blurred effect) Unfocused, as if a teenager/member of the audience were filming it.
➝ Music falls again, (crowd, darker)- focal point of the shot on the lights.
➝ People in focus, lights out of focus - real, repetitive movement of the lights that follows the music.
➝ Circular movement once the music calms, clips are longer and less flashy, linger, come into focus.
Analysis
The message of this music video was based on the image of social events in a more calming and uplifting fashion than shown in some other music videos which associate with parties and people. It features few visible people and instead focuses on lights and their patterns. The editing of the video was done so that the emphasis on colour is evident - black and white during the end of the song's verse and then bright colour when the lights are seen and the chorus starts. Near the end, the shorter, quickly changing clips become slower and focus on the movements in a dream-like way as the music calms. Most of the out of focus shots help the audience focus on the colour itself as well as see it as something an everyday person having fun could film when going out in the evening, something that they can relate to and enjoy. If I were to re-edit this video, I would try and include different effects that can fit better with the rhythm of the music itself.
A good video that explores what we have learned about alternative video conventions. Try to keep all blog posts as visual as possible..show rather than tell. Ms Page
